Join Professor Gregory S. Cooke, director and producer of Invisible Warriors: African American Women in WWII on Tuesday, February 10 at 7pm ET for an engaging virtual conversation about the Black Rosies, National Black Women’s Labor Day and the recent release of the Invisible Warriors documentary on streaming services. Moderated by Basil and Becky Educational Foundation Program Manager Krysta Jones, this discussion will highlight how we can all play a role in preserving the legacy of the Black Rosies and the importance of education through film.

“Susan Taylor King, 101, of Baltimore, will tell about her life, and her experiences as an original “Rosie the Riveter” in an aircraft plant during World War II, in a talk Monday, Sept 29, 2025, in Lancaster. She’ll address the World War II Oral History Group at the Heritage Hotel in Lancaster.”
Susan was featured in the critically acclaimed film Invisible Warriors: AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN IN WORLD WAR II.

The program will include an introduction by a real-life “Rosie,” a female defense industry worker during the war, and a viewing of the documentary Invisible Warriors: African American Women in World War II, produced by Professor Gregory S. Cooke. Professor Cooke is a recently retired Assistant Adjunct Professor for Drexel University and the Community College of Philadelphia. The program will also include a virtual question and answer (Q&A) session with Professor Cooke following the screening. This event is free.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, join the Florida Historic Capitol Museum and Florida Humanities for a virtual screening of the documentary Invisible Warriors: African American Women in World War II.
Hear the wartime memories of African American women who were recruited to serve in US war production and government positions in the 1940s as 20 million women stepped forward to build the “arsenal of democracy.” Known as “Black Rosies,” their first-hand accounts detail battles against racism at home, Nazism abroad, and sexism everywhere. A conversation with film director Professor Gregory Cooke, moderated by Dr. Ashley Robertson Preston from Howard University, will follow the screening. More information on the event.
